Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The Girls Inc. experience helps girls build the knowledge, skills and confidence to effect change in their lives and in the world. Girls Inc. empowers youngsters to succeed by providing trusting mentoring relationships, a girls-only environment, and research-based, hands-on programming. Three critical goals drive their programming: to help girls achieve healthy lives, succeed academically, and acquire the life skills needed to prepare them for adulthood. They work to ensure that girls participate in programs and activities that support and expand on their school-based learning and engagement. It is also important that girls are motivated to set and achieve educational and career goals, particularly in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Biocom Pathways to STEAM
Innovation drives the future of health care, and our future scientists will drive that innovation – educating and inspiring the next generation in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) is vital to continued innovation. The Biocom Generation STEAM programming truly takes students from science projects to science careers. Their Pathways to STEAM program, specifically, prepares students to not only be successful in their first experience in a lab, but to take that success into their future careers.
Voices for Children
Voices for Children provides volunteer advocates to children in foster care. Founded in 1980, Voices for Children (VFC) transforms the lives of abused, neglected, and abandoned children in foster care in San Diego and Riverside Counties by providing them with trained, volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASA volunteers advocate for an individual child or sibling group in court, school, and in the community to ensure their needs are met. VFC believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home and strives to provide a CASA volunteer to every child in the foster care system who needs one. Last year, VFC staff and nearly 1,400 CASAs served more than 4,200 children across San Diego and Riverside Counties.
